Welcome to Fort Anne National Historic Site in Annapolis Royal.
Nestled along the edge of the Annapolis Basin and Annapolis Royal`s scenic National Historic District, Fort Anne is Canada`s first national historic site designated in 1917.
Considered one of the most hotly contested places in North America; this has always been Mi`kmaw territory and the site of treaty negotiations. Both the French and the British held military control during the early 1600s and 1700s - the area changed hands seven times during this time.
Today, an interactive and immersive exhibit inside the Officers` Quarters museum showcases Fort Anne as a meeting place for many cultures including the Mi`kmaq, Scots, Acadians, Black Loyalists, British and French.
Stroll the star-shaped earthwork fortifications on a guided Vauban Fort tour or learn more about the Acadians that lived here and why Annapolis Royal is considered the Cradle of Acadie. Families will enjoy the Parks Canada Xplorer Program with lots of fun activities perfect for kids.
The grounds and walking path provide lots of space to enjoy a hike or picnic. Fort Anne played a key role in the forces and events that shaped this community, the province and the nation.
