There’s nothing quite like seafood in Digby 🦪🌊

If you’ve been thinking about booking a trip, let this be your sign. Digby is proudly known as the Scallop Capital of the World, and for good reason—our scallops are landed fresh right here in the Bay of Fundy and served at their absolute best.

But the seafood doesn’t stop there. Depending on the season, you’ll also find locally caught lobster, haddock, clams, mussels, and other Bay of Fundy favourites—often on the menu just hours after coming off the boat.

Fresh, local, and beautifully prepared, seafood is at the heart of the Digby experience. Come hungry, book that trip, and taste why this coast is so special.

🎳 Ever tried candlepin bowling?

If you’re visiting Digby (or even if you’ve lived here forever), candlepin bowling is a must-try Maritime experience. Smaller balls, taller pins, and rules that feel just a little… different 👀

It’s classic East Coast fun—quirky, competitive, and perfect for a rainy day or a night of friendly rivalry. And if it feels familiar in a “didn’t I see this on TV once?” kind of way… you’re not wrong 😉

Old-school fun, local flavour, and a true Maritime tradition—Digby does it right. Wilson’s Bowling Centre. 312 Warwick St.

👑 You’ve heard us say we are the "Scallop Capital of the World." But why?

Well, it may be more than you think.

🌊 It's a science.

Just as wine has terroir (the taste of the land), scallops have merroir, the taste of the sea. Digby scallops are chemically and physically superior because of one massive advantage: The Bay of Fundy.

The world's highest tides constantly churn up deep, cold water, acting as a massive conveyor belt that delivers nutrient-dense plankton directly to the scallop beds.

This endless "all-you-can-eat buffet," combined with the icy water temperatures, produces a scallop that is physically larger, sweeter, and has a distinct, firm texture that you can't find in warmer waters

Or in other words, they are really good eats!

⚓ The Digby Drag

We didn't just start it, we built it. In the 1920s, the first commercial beds were discovered, but it was Captain Roland Wormell’s invention of the "Digby Drag" in 1927 that changed history.

Unlike massive offshore trawlers that scrape everything, the Digby Drag consists of a gang of smaller, chain-linked steel baskets. This flexible design allows the gear to contour over the rocky, uneven ocean bottom of the Bay of Fundy, scooping up scallops while minimizing damage to the seabed compared to rigid dredges.

Today, these drags use specific ring sizes that allow juvenile scallops to escape and grow for another year, ensuring the fishery remains sustainable for generations.

'Cause why would we ruin a good thing?

🌟 The center of attention.

The Digby fleet is one of the largest inshore scallop fleets on the planet, contributing over $30 million annually to the local economy. It's what you see proudly on display in downtown Digby.

A view just as gorgeous as the meals they provide.
What's a Lighthouse worth to you?

In maybe the most maritime story ever, this is how Digby lost, and got back it's iconic lighthouse on Admirals Walk.

Constructed in 1903 by John Roney of Granville Ferry, this lighthouse originally stood at the end of the government pier. It was a critical guide for the steamers and fishing boats navigating the difficult currents of the Annapolis Basin.

In the 1970s, when the old pier was deemed unsafe, the lighthouse was saved from demolition but moved across the bay to Saint John, New Brunswick. It spent decades there, serving as a ticket kiosk and a tourist attraction for their city.

In 2012, we decided it was time it came home.

Our mayor at the time, Ben Cleveland, and about 30 others boarded the ferry to Saint John with the most valuable thing in Digby to get it back. 230 lbs of of world famous Digby scallops. That was the cost to bring it home.

From 2012 - 2016 it underwent repairs, and then on June 21st, 2016, cranes brought it down to where it sits now.

The official opening of it took place on July 23rd, 2016.

Meaning we are less than 8 months away from it being the 10th anniversary of it coming home.

Perhaps we should celebrate with some scallops?!

🐾 Did You Know?

In 🇨🇦Canada, there are no official accreditations or licensing requirements for pet trainers. That means anyone can call themselves a “trainer” — no education, certification, or regulation is required.
Yes this means in theory, your horses uncle can be a “dog trainer” 🐴🤣🤣😭

🐾Your pets deserve care guided by real education, experience, and professional standards. ⭐️This is why even with my years of experience and education I am working towards my IAACB certification to be an accredited trainer and then get my behaviourist certification 💪
✅choosing IAABC offers you a globally-recognised credential grounded in experience and applied knowledge, a professional community and ethics-framework

⛔️People make up their own “dog trainer schools” and sell this to unsuspecting victims. If your trainer has an unknown certification, dive deeper and do research. We are not looking for individual opinions, we are looking for a regulated and certified professional. Otherwise it is best to go to a veterinary behaviourist only for any modification.

Please note: if the practitioner says they are Fear free certified, ask for a link to their listing on the public website.

Don’t blindly trust — ask for credentials!

✅my Behaviour consults are free!
$30 for a detailed write up after your consult and basic plan tailored to your pet (not just a handout) with follow up for 7 days, or just the assessment and you can decide what you want to do from there. 🐾
