Step into Maritime History at the Slocum Boot Shop
Preserving the legacy of legendary solo circumnavigator Joshua Slocum, the Joshua Slocum Society has fully restored a historic fish house on Brier Island. When an eight-year-old Slocum first arrived on the island, his father ran a cobbler shop crafting boots for local fishermen. Today, visitors can tour an authentic recreation of this 1850s workshop, explore exhibits detailing Slocum’s groundbreaking voyage, and dive into the island’s rich seafaring heritage.
