The Joshua Slocum Society has been reborn on Brier Island and has launched the Slocum Boot Shop historic site at 118 Water Street in Westport. Step inside an 1850s cobbler shop and experience stories and information about Joshua Slocum. Slocum was the first person to sail single-handedly around the world and he did this from 1895-1898. He moved to Brier Island when he was 8 years old.
