This past Sunday was World Whale Day. The theme was, Celebrating and Protecting Earth’s Majestic Giants. Something whale watching in the Digby area is all about.
Our whale watching operators have a deep love for all marine life. Not only have many of them been doing tours for decades, they also have contributed years of research to helping keep these gentle giants safe and thriving. It is all about the whales wellbeing. Always.
We’re just about 4 months away from this years season opening up, and after the incredible year we had last year, we thought we would answer some frequently asked questions to get you excited about the months ahead.
When and where does whale watching happen in the Digby area?

Whale watching goes from mid June until the end of September. You can catch tours at the end of Digby Neck, as well as, on Long & Brier Island.
Why whale watching in the Digby area?

The Digby area is one of the best places in North America for whale watching. The Bay of Fundy provides a nutritious food supply to numerous species of birds, fish, bottom-dwellers and, of course, whales. This is where they come to eat!
What will you see on a whale watching cruise?

Whales that visit the Bay of Fundy are Humpback, Pilot, and the endangered North Atlantic Right Whale. On rare occasions you may even see an Orca or Blue Whale. Dolphins, bluefin tuna, sea turtles, puffins and basking sharks are also often seen on tours.
In 2024 we were treated to them all! We saw our first Blue Whale in many years, had our annual visit from Old Thom the Orca! There were also some North Atlantic Right Whale sightings!
Will I actually see whales?

While we can’t control the whales, we’re the best spot for whale watching in Nova Scotia for a reason! They love the Bay of Fundy, and we go out at a time when they are very active. Most whale watching cruises see multiple whales daily while in season. Check their pages for yourself. They often do recaps of their trips.
What is 2025 looking like?

Only one way to find out! Book your trip to the Islands and make sure Digby area whale watching is on your travel list for this year!
