Have you been to the new Smiths Cove Lighthouse Park?
Originally called “Bear River Lighthouse” when it was built in 1905, this lighthouse proudly lit the way until it was decommissioned and left to sit in 2001.
On October 14th, 2022, it was lit again for the first time in 30 years, and just this past July was the Smiths Cove Lighthouse Park grand opening and Municipal Heritage Plaque Unveiling.
Want to check it out yourself? Parking is right across from the highway exit coming off Highway 101 in Smiths Cove, between highway 1 and the Digby Railbed Trail. It’s then about a 10 minute walk to the park.
A big thank you to the Smiths Cove Historical Society, Rob Hersey, Jim Mountain, and Martin Mundry and all the volunteers who made this all possible.
