Do you know how we got the title of Scallop Capital of The World?
Digby is the Scallop Capital of The World for many reasons.
Scallops were first commercially harvested in Digby in the 1920’s. We are known for having the largest scallop fleet, one that is prominently displayed when you visit our waterfront.
But perhaps the biggest reason we get to call ourselves thee place to experience scallops, is because of the Bay of Fundy itself.
Our waters are prime for scallops. The high tides, cold ocean temperatures and nutrient dense waters of the Bay of Fundy create the perfect environment for our large, juicy, and tasty scallops.
Not to mention, it’s kind of our thing now. So we tend to do it very well!
