New Nonprofit Launched to Protect Bay of Fundy Whales

##

A new organization, the Bay of Fundy Whale Research and Conservation Society, has officially launched, dedicated to safeguarding whales and marine ecosystems in the Bay of Fundy. Building on over 40 years of research on Brier Island, where more than 750 humpback whales have been documented, the society aims to further the legacy of marine conservation.

The society’s mission includes long-term monitoring of whale populations and their habitats, supporting entanglement response efforts, conducting educational outreach to schools and communities, and collaborating with other researchers and organizations in the region.

The Bay of Fundy, known for its dynamic marine environment featuring 12 whale species and the world’s highest tides, is a critical ecosystem requiring protection. The society aspires to become a central hub for marine conservation, blending science with stewardship and driving change through community involvement.

Residents and supporters are encouraged to follow the society on social media (@fundywhales on Instagram and Facebook), share their story, and visit www.fundywhales.org to learn more and contribute to their efforts to protect the Bay of Fundy’s marine life.
