Eagles in the Digby Region

##
When’s the last time you saw an Eagle? 🦅

Depending on where you are reading this from, it may be rare to see an Eagle.

In 1978, the United States put their beloved bird on the endangered species list, with an estimated 500 breeding pairs left on earth.

Luckily in 2007, they were able to take them off that list, but there is still a fight to keep them alive. In fact, today is Save The Eagles Day. A day dedicated to this beautiful bird.

Thanks to the work of our wildlife biologists in the 1980’s, Nova Scotia now has the highest concentration of breeding Bald Eagles in NorthEastern North America.

As well, Brier Island attracts bird watchers from all over the world due to the incredible bird activity that happens here. Brier Island is on the Atlantic Flyway Migratory Route and is protected as an IBA (Important Bird Area).

It’s pretty common to spot an Eagle around the Digby region, but definitely not something we take for granted.
